In line with the EU phase-out of mercury-based light sources, the Scanner 4 will transition to 366 nm LED technology starting in Q4 2026.
The new standard configuration replaces the mercury lamp with a 366 nm LED. The deuterium and tungsten light sources are unaffected — existing applications, validated methods, and full spectral scanning continue as before. Absorbance measurements at other wavelengths, including 254 nm, remain fully supported through the deuterium lamp at comparable detection limits.
Current Scanner 4 instruments can be upgraded to the 366 nm LED using the dedicated upgrade kit, once available.
If a mercury lamp is required for a new Scanner 4, it will remain available as a separate order item for as long as EU regulations permit. Installation in place of the LED must be carried out on-site by a qualified service engineer; no further system adjustments are needed.
The 366 nm LED requires visionCATS 4.2 with the applicable service pack. This update enables the software to distinguish between mercury-lamp and LED operation. Earlier versions of visionCATS do not support the LED.
