Solvent recovery systems typically consist of a glass-lined reactor, a glass distillation overhead with heat exchangers, a packed rectification column (with structured and unstructured packing) as well as distillate coolers and receivers.
Two different types of heat exchangers are typically used: spiral condenser (glass) and shell and tube heat exchangers. Shell and tube type heat exchangers are built with inner tubes made of borosilicate glass, glass-lined steel, silicon carbide (SiC), tantalum or other metals, depending on process parameters and other requirements.
Rectification columns can be packed with random packings such as raschig rings, ceramic saddles, PFA packing elements or structured packings made by various manufacturers, including Sulzer Chemtech and Koch-Glitsch - depending on the required separation performance and process media.
